Featuring a unique mix of humor and dementia, Susan is set to be a truly pivotal film in the global conversation about diseases like Alzheimer’s and FTD. Susan Suchan’s intrinsic sense of self, and whimsical outlook on life is infused into this timeless story.
Documenting Susan over the course of 3 years, Director Russ Kirkpatrick set out to enshrine her authentic legacy. The feature length documentary showcases Susan’s tenacity, despite unimaginable odds, capped with a disease death sentence before age 50.
Kirkpatrick works with Director of Photography Samuel Calvin to emulate Susan’s physical condition through film. The “fly on the wall” footage will give audiences a jarring look at Susan’s experiences as she makes her way through family drama, impassioned advocacy, and planning for the inevitable.
Kirkpatrick & Kinslow Productions brought in Unit Production Manager Wendy Parker, and Line Producer Sha’ree Green to manage logistics. Parker & Green assisted with a highly dynamic & intensive shooting schedule over the course of 6 weeks, in dozens of locations, in multiple states.
