'Susan' Production Company Signs Agreement with Circle Cinema for Exclusive Theatrical Release
Kirkpatrick & Kinslow Productions has signed a distribution licensing agreement with Circle Cinema, a Tulsa-based 501 (c)3 organization. Kirkpatrick & Kinslow (KKP) produces movies, documentaries, and content for television. Circle Cinema is Tulsa’s oldest movie theater and is dedicated to fostering an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of the human experience through film.
KKP Producer and the film’s director Russ Kirkpatrick said, “The mission of Circle Cinema matches perfectly with the ‘Susan’ Feature Documentary, an impact film designed to help audiences everywhere better understand a disease that 55 million people are diagnosed with globally.” The subject of the feature film has a disease perhaps best associated with actor Bruce Willis, frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
The ‘Susan’ film has been introduced to an audience of millions through its profile on Inside Edition, along with audiences in several other states through television, radio, and newspaper coverage. In addition to a popular e-newsletter, thousands of people follow the ‘Susan’ film on social media, which has become a sort of advocacy space for everyday people who have been touched by the disease in various ways, to compare stories with others just like them.
The “life and death” themed documentary, filmed over the course of several years, blends observational and subtly performative elements. Susan’s humor often drives the conversation in unconventional ways, offering a unique perspective to an often-overlooked disease and its impact on families and caregivers. “Susan’s lived experience is impacting dialogue about FTD and its effect on family, friends, and those with the disease,” Kirkpatrick said.
‘Susan’ is from Kirkpatrick & Kinslow Films, with Andy Kinslow executive producing, along with an entirely Oklahoma-based film crew who assisted with filming in multiple states. Jamesworks Entertainment with James Kicklighter out of Los Angeles handled editing on the project. Funding for the project came entirely from Oklahoma based interests, with the exception of a global crowd-funding campaign for the film, which comprised about 4% of the film’s budget.
Kirkpatrick & Kinslow and the ‘Susan’ documentary property are represented by Wendy Drummond in the entertainment law division of Drummond Law, with copyright clearance from Amy E. Mitchell, PLLC.
Additional theater locations and streaming details will be released soon.
